I'm gomg tp see Switchfoot at the House of Blues in Vegas.... (see previous blog) March 16. :) u gonna be there?
There is a friend who I would like to go with me... but....anyway. I didn't ask her, cuz I think she wouldn't go....
not her type of music... besides... she doesn't like to stand. I don't really mind standing... and dancing around anyway. :)
lyrics to on fire... from the Beutiful Let Down CD. To me a very spiritual song about God and His love and His Mystery:
Tell you where you need to go
Tell you when you need to leave
Tell you what you need to know
Tell you who you need to be
Everything inside you knows there's more than what you've heard
So much more than empty conversation filled with empty words
And you're on fire when He's near you
You're on fire when He speaks
You're on fire, burning at these mysteries
Give me one more time around
Give me one more chance to see
Give me everything You are
Give me one more chance to be
Everything inside me looks like everything I hate
You are the hope I have for change, You are the only chance I'll take
When I'm on fire when You're near me
I'm on fire when You speak
I'm on fire burning at these mysteries
These mysteries
I've been standing on the edge of me
standing on the edge of me
standing on the edge of me
standing on the edge of me
standing on the edge of everything I've never been before
And I've been standing on the edge of me
standing on the edge
And I'm on fire when You're near me
I'm on fire when You speak
I'm on fire burning at these mysteries

mario's place
Well... on the spur of a jazz moment, I went over to Mario's Place. Great restaurant in downtown Riverside right across from the historic Mission Inn. No cover, and the best jazz around...
Tonight was the Fred Griffin Band (Vibraharp (vibraphone)... excellent band with very competent Pianist, Sax, bass and drums.

Seattle Saturday...
here's a photo abstract of a patron at EasyStreet.
We continued to explore the musical side of Seattle and looked for a cool music store selling used CDs and Vinyl. After googleing we found a gem: EasyStreet Records. Three locations in the Seattle area... we visited the one near 1st Avenue. Aaron had a great time exploring the possibilities.

you break it you buy it...
the Koi in questions is the black and orange one... click on the photo for more of Gina Karaba's work of art. (http://www.zentone.com/gina_karaba.htm)
While exploring Pike's Fish Market (a popular tourist spot by the shore of Puget Sound) my son Aaron and I were admiring some of the amazing blown glass sculptures of this one artist. As Aaron picked up a shiny heavy glass piece... it slipped out of his glove hand and broke the fin off of a beauatiful Koi glass sculpture. Aaron, feeling overwhelmingly sorry, quite embarrassed, feeling very awkward and devastated was shocked this had happened. As a the parent, quickly said to Aaron, step away from the display and do not touch anything and take those gloves off!
I asked the artist if this piece can be repaired? Yes, but the piece just lost half of it's value. I asked how much she would sell it for... she said $150. I offered to buy this piece from her after she had repaired it. The artist will re-attach the fin and use a special UV light to seal the fin together back on the fish. I left her my cell# and that we would be back again to pay for this beautiful albeit flawed work of art. I told Aaron that this was something we could remember the rest of our lives... everytime we see the koi fish... :)
Bad luck just seem to follow us today too.
btw... another potential bad luck turned out well, when I suddenly noticed I had lost my key for the hotel. (lost keys would cost us $15). I was sure I had the key with me... so we headed back for the car... there it was... on the parking lot floor next to the car.
Whew! Perhaps our rash of bad luck is finally leaving us.
*a small thank you to God above for keeping us safe from the crazy traffic and unfamiliarity with seattle*

a rash of bad luck in seattle...Day 1.
It started with a delayed flight out of Ontario, which affected our connecting flight form San Jose to Seattle, so we got re-routed through Oakland. All in all our flight which should have originally arrived in Seattle at 8:30 pm, finally landed at 11:00 pm!
The weather in Seattle was a cold 39 deg F. Our rental car (Enterprise) office closed at 11:00 pm. After trying to get answers, we finally decided to get another rental car from Dollar. We reached our hotel finally at 12:30 am.

The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice
And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her skies
I can't take my eyes off OF you
I can't take my eyes off OF you
I can't take my eyes off OF you
I can't take my eyes off OF you
I can't take my eyes off OF you
I can't take my eyes...
And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower's daughter
The pupil in denial
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...
Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?
I can't take my mind off OF you
I can't take my mind off OF you...
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind...
My mind...my mind...
'Til I find somebody new
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her skies
I can't take my eyes off OF you

Dream of the Return - Pat Metheny Group
This is one of the most beautiful songs by Pat Metheny. The song is in spanish (see english translation below).
DREAM OF THE RETURN (Music: Pat Metheny-Lyrics: Pedro Aznar) (Spanish)
Al mar eché un poema
que llevó con él mis preguntas y mi voz
Como un lento barco se perdió en la espuma
Le pedí que no diera la vuelta
sin haber visto el altamar y en sueños hablar
conmigo de lo que vio
Aún si no volviera yo sabría si llegó
=============================================
(English)
I tossed a poem to the sea
that took with it my questions and my voice
Like a slow ship it vanished in the foam
I asked it not to turn back
without having seen the open sea
and in dreams telling me of its visions
Even if it never returned I would know if it arrived
Travel the whole life on the blue calm or floundering in storms;
little matters the way if some port awaits
I waited so long for the message that I forgot
returning to the sea and thought the poem lost forever
I cried my rancor to the heavens till I found it,
finally, written in the sand like a prayer
The sea beats in my veins and set my heart free.

not meant to be...
My friend...he flunked chemistry class.
Sometimes two chemicals react because of certain properties and sometimes not.
Usually it's because there are properties the other chemical possesses that the other one needs to react.
Well, he tried mixing these two chemicals together, but nothing would happen.
He tried to add heat, nothing...
He tried to add energy, nothing...
He tried forcing these chemicals to react, nothing...
I told him to let it go and try to postulate another theory and get back to the "drawing board"
He's taking my advice, for now.
maybe he needs to take advice from my fisherman friend.
"there's lotsa fish in the ocean"

it's late...
I had a good today at work. not the usual busy monday, my coworkers and I decided to get food form the local Hawaiian BBQ place. After being in Hawaii, I have a pretty good idea of what's good and not. The Ono Hawaiian BBQ place near work is pretty good. :) I had the Chicken Katsu and Beef combo... big enough to feed two, but I was super hungry today. I good sign that i am getting over my cold. :)

Spent Birthday with son...
Feeling better from my cold, I wanted to spend the day with my son before the superbowl party. So off we went to a nearby outdoor mall in riverside. This really cool bread place Panera. interestingly enough a friend, Desiree, her sister and mom were there too, apparently shopping for her sister's upcoming wedding. So, that was a nice surprise. :)
I recommend Panera for great breads soups salads and sandwiches. simple but good.
:)
Happy Birthday to me...
It's Feb 5 and it's my birthday....
It was a quiet birthday... a few of my friends sang the "happy birthday" song to me at church...
at the same time I was feeling awful, because I have a bad cold, and not wanting to spread the germ...I stayed home tonight and tried to get well.
I watched Ray again, but this time with the Director commentary.
Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday and I am off to a friend's home to watch the game.
Not much into football actually, but being a social person, I think I will enjoy the company of friends tomorrow...
