go see United 93 for Memorial Day

I've been avoiding this movie (United 93) because I didn't think I was ready to see and re-experience what happened on 9/11, but something inside me persuaded me to see it today. If anything it would be my way of remembering those who died on 9/11 and those who have lost their lived due to terrorism on Memorial Day.
The movie is intense and felt very real to me, I cried a little at the end. Definitely not a date movie, but maybe a movie one should see as a married couple or committed couple. I went by myselfl, cuz I didn't think anyone would go. I am saddened, but I am grateful that I went, because it helped me realize what it might have been like being one of those passengers. Go see this before it goes to DVD, the theater has such impact that a little TV screen doesn't.

I also want to take a moment thank our men and women in the armed forces for their sacrifice and duty to our country. Thank You.

what is this!?!?

yep... that's a close up of my knee taken with my Canon S2iS

All the winners...

my amazing son...

Aaron won gold medals for this year (and the past 4 years too). As a parent, who wouldn't be proud? He is an amazing musician. Congratulations Aaron.
p.s. he's the taller guy with the suit ;)

This is a classic vantage point along the PCH looking down on Laguna Beach. Taken along the path by the cliffs...

brunch...at laguna beach

After the Bach Competition at Chapman College, we headed off to Laguna Beach where my son and I had brunch at the White House. The food was delicious! This is right on Highway 1 near the downtown area. fun place to eat.

Before the competition

We had a moment before the actual competition to take photos by the piano. The room was designed with acoustics in mind. There were about 23 performers that day. Aaron did wonderfully. I am proud of him and his hard work. :)

Death Cab for Cutie: Greek Theater-UC Berkeley August 11

Can't wait to see Death Cab for Cutie in Berkeley August 11. :)

Someday You Will Be Loved

I once knew a girl
In the years of my youth
With eyes like the summer
All beauty and truth
In the morning I fled
Left a note and it read
Someday you will be loved.

I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Cause each broken heart will eventually mend
As the blood runs red down the needle and thread
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved you'll be loved
Like you never have known
The memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You may feel alone when you're falling asleep
And everytime tears roll down your cheeks
But I know your heart belongs to someone you've yet to meet
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved you'll be loved
Like you never have known
The memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved you'll be loved
Like you never have known
The memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved
Someday you will be loved

night photos...from balboa beach

A parting shot from an evening at balboa beach. Good Night...

Leaving Balboa Island

photo as i was leaving the island to head back to the peninsula. it was getting dark...

Unusual flash macro photo...

Balboa Island Flower Gardens

One of the coolest things is taking the ferry from the peninsula to balboa island, and just walk along the homes with these beautiful flower gardens in the front. Most of the homes here are wall to wall, but they're quite unique with the differing flower gardens.

under the pier at Balboa

As I walked along the sand I came upon the pier...

Sunday at the beach...

Sunday I decided on the spur of the moment to go to the beach. It was overcast but pleasant. Balboa is one of my favorite places to go because it doesn't seem crowded like some beaches and the ferry boat across to the island is always a treat.

chicken burrito with poblano sauce

hmmm delicious...

First stop... taco mesa

It was my first stop when I headed for the beach alone on Sunday. It was mother's day and we had celebrated earlier this week, so I was free on Sunday to just do whatever I wanted. Taco Mesa is a great little "to-go" restaurant near costa mesa. They make delicious fresh Mexican food specializing is seafood. I thought the building was beautifully painted in these intense colors.

Sabbath with my community of believers

One special thing about the church that I attend is that the leadership is willing to challenge ourselves as leaders and to listen to the church community to see if we are fulfilling our life statement: Learning to Love Well. This is a photo of about 3 different meetings groups, yesterday.

my favorite coffee house

This is where I hang out at least a couple days a week. Usually on Mondays and Wednesday my son and I grab an Iced Tea and machiatto (for me) and just sit and talk for a bit. We then go and get dinner. You can find us sitting at one of those tables

more from last night...

We are telling you about what we ourselves have actually seen and heard, so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3

a surprise birthday for a friend

Last night (Saturday) a bunch of us gathered at a friend's coffee house. A friend's birthdy surprise was in the works, and he thought he would just be playing drums, but he didn't know friends from everywhere came to surprise him.

One.org event with U2 Cover Band

What is ONE?

ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – ONE by ONE – to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, united as ONE to help make poverty history. ONE believes that allocating an additional ONE percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. ONE also calls for debt cancellation, trade reform and anti–corruption measures in a comprehensive package to help Africa and the poorest nations beat AIDS and extreme poverty.

Martin Gore of Depeche Mode (Coachella)

=========================
Somebody

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listen to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my views may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She'll hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll often disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and
With every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer clear of
Those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it
